Opportunities - Birds & Important Bird Areas
Project: Birds and Important Bird Areas (IBAs)
Objective: Increase conservation efforts in IBAs across Canada and in key sites in the Americas
Description: Nature Canada launched the Canadian IBA program in 1996. Since then we have identified 597 sites that provide critical habitat for birds. But because 89% of Canada’s birds are migratory, it makes sense to consider the southern habitats where they spend their winters. Thanks to these fresh ideas in bird conservation efforts, including establishing partnerships and cooperation in countries like Mexico, the Caribbean ( Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti) and Paraguay, Nature Ambassadors help protect IBAs in these countries that are crucial for migratory and local birds.
Fundraising Goal: $480,000
