Please keep safety in mind as an IceWatch participant. Always obtain the local police report to find out if it is safe for outdoor recreation on your local lakes and rivers.
It’s important to remember that you do not need to be close to the water’s edge to IceWatch. Whether you monitor a bay or region of ice that you can spot from a distance, the key to providing reliable data for IceWatch scientists is to monitor at the same location in the same way every year.
If you are submitting photocopies of your historical records, be sure your reports are legible. If not, please transcribe the notes in clear handwriting or enter your records electronically on the national IceWatch Web site.
Provide a special note if your observation area is exceptional, e.g. if you are monitoring salt water, or if you are located downstream from a dam or industrial outlet. If you have lost or misplaced your IceWatch observation forms, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Nature Canada and we will be happy to send you additional copies.
